The Origin of Almsgiving

Origin of the word “Tak Bat” (Almsgiving) means to place offerings into a monk’s alms bowl. The word “Tak” does not refer to the common Thai verb meaning “to scoop” or “to ladle,” as in scooping water, curry, or soil. Instead, “Tak” in this context is believed to be derived from the Khmer word “ṭāka”, which means “to place down” or “to lay down.”

At Kalanan Riverside Resort, guests are invited to take part in preserving a beautiful Thai tradition through the Siriboon Almsgiving Experience—a serene riverside alms-giving ceremony held every 4th Sunday of the month along the Chao Phraya River.

Guests can book the Siriboon Package, which includes a special room offer, breakfast for two, and participation in the morning almsgiving ritual. Alternatively, you may reserve the almsgiving activity on its own.

Click to book the Siriboon Package and immerse yourself in this rare and meaningful cultural experience along the river.
